In 1947 a small band of volunteers gathered to form the Torquay and District Ex-Servicemen’s Club.  Known locally as the ‘Heroes’, their objective was to look after their mates through the provision of services to veterans and their families.

By the end of the 20th Century, membership had reduced to a small group of older volunteers who were unable to continue managing the Club and the services it offered to veterans and the local community.

The Torquay RSL Sub-Branch received its charter in 2002.

The Club is managed by a committee made up of volunteers who work hard to provide welfare services to veterans and social activities to its members.  Torquay RSL provides a range of welfare services, and its welfare officers interact with younger veterans and serving Defence personnel to guarantee that their social, health and well-being needs, and those of their dependents, are met.

We dependent on willing volunteers, not only to provide a wide range of welfare services, but also to organise a number of major commemorative services, including Remembrance and ANZAC Days.

The Club stages one of the largest ANZAC Day Dawn Services in Australia each year at Point Danger, Torquay.  The success of the annual ANZAC Day service is a credit to the spirit and generosity of the community and businesses of Torquay and the district.
